JPJ Tinted Spec — Malaysia Window Tint Law
A practical guide to JPJ-compliant visible light transmission (VLT) for private passenger vehicles. Use this when choosing car window tint — then browse our JPJ-approved packages.
Legal VLT limits (private cars)
VLT measures how much light passes through the glass. Higher VLT means lighter tint. JPJ sets minimum VLT on front glass for road safety.
| Window | Minimum VLT | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Front windscreen | 70% | Minimum visible light transmission (VLT). Darker film is not permitted without JPJ approval. |
| Front side windows (driver & front passenger) | 50% | Must allow at least 50% light through for compliance checks. |
| Rear side windows | No minimum | Private cars may use darker shades on rear side glass. |
| Rear windscreen | No minimum | Rear glass may be tinted darker on private passenger vehicles. |
Rules may differ for commercial or special-purpose vehicles. This page is a general reference — confirm current JPJ requirements before installation.

Staying compliant on the road
KL Tint Studio installs films designed to meet Malaysian regulations. Follow these tips to avoid fines or failed inspections.
- Ask for JPJ-compliant films and documented VLT ratings before installation.
- Keep your tint approval or receipt — enforcement may use a tint meter on the road.
- Medical or special exemptions require official JPJ approval — not shop discretion alone.
- Re-tinting after an accident? Match compliant VLT on front glass before driving on public roads.
